Gambeson

This stylish Gambeson is perfect for medieval and Renaissance fairs. However, in times of yore, this piece of clothing was more than a style statement. Imagine a peeved enemy having a go at you with his sword. Would the mail shirt protect you? To an extent, yes. However, it was always possible for a heavy weapon to penetrate the rings of the shirt or, if not that, generate enough blunt force trauma to break bones and injure internal organs.
